The Tat Man’s voice is the genuine voice of the midlands and the Black Country. The stories that makes the play are from the region.
The play is set in his home in the scrapyard where he weaves his tales transporting the audience out of the theatre to places in his mind by means of tales and songs. The plot leads inexorably into the real and terrifying landscape of the First World War. Here human dreams are shattered, and the Tat Man must find the pieces of his demolished dreams; dreams of his times, of his life. He must gather them and rebuild a life that makes sense, so to keep his sanity.
